Days out with Hettie -Cotswold Lavender
I love Lavender . The smell is beautiful and the purple flowers so pretty in the garden. They remind me of holidays in France too. We live not far away from Cotswold Lavender in Broadway and it is a wonderful place to visit when the lavender fields are in full bloom
It's always a good idea to check out their website before visiting , or their social media so that you can time your visit for maximum blooms and impact. This year the farm is open from June 8th - 4th August. The lavender is grown as a crop and also needs to be harvested also.
Last year we lost our beautiful french bulldog puppy Minnie in June in tragic circumstances. We went for a visit to see the lavender and it really was such peaceful place to reflect on all that had happened to us in the previous weeks
On arriving , you walk through the gates and are greeted with a stunning view of the fields
The smell is absolutely wonderful , and to wander up and down the lines of purple and white lavender just amazing . I think perhaps we should have waited a week or so to see the full effect but it was still stunning .
The Cotswolds are known around the world as a classic view of the English countryside. Their long association with the farming community has given the Cotswolds their name, 'cot' meaning sheep enclosure and 'wold' meaning hill.
The Cotswold escarpment of Oolitic limestone was pushed from the tropical seabed around 150 million years ago. It is this same stone that gives the houses their golden yellow hue.
Whilst the sheep have shaped the landscape for many generations, other crops also flourish on the free draining limestone soils. I love gardening and have planted lavender hedges at home . There is some useful advice on the website for people wanting to grow lavender - it's really easy.
There is a lovely tea room , and also a shop where you can buy plants and shop from their beautiful gifts range .

As well as lavender , the farm grows and harvests camomile and has a wild flower meadow . It is a photographer's dream and many people book slots for commercial photography .
Cotswold Lavender is definitely worth visiting in the summer . We would love to hear all about your day out there if you go . Enjoy !
