The benefits of walking with your dog

I love walking with the dogs . It sets me up for the day ahead and means I get outside in the fresh air regardless of the weather. Walking clears my mind and gives me time to look at the world around me .

It lifts my spirits to see them running free and just enjoying being a dog .

"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too." ~ Samuel Butler

We are so fortunate  to live in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside with many great walks to choose from . When we first moved here I bought some maps from Ordnance survey to check out walks to explore . I love taking photographs too and am always finding things and views to snap.

"To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring - it was peace." ~ Milan Kundera

Walking has many benefits for both humans and dogs. Studies have shown that for overweight people/dogs, a 30 minute walk, three times per week can reduce blood pressure, increase energy, improve sense of well-being, and lower your weight by 5% and your dog’s by 15%. What more do you need to know !

Here are a few reasons you and your dog can benefit from daily walks together.

Strengthens Your Bond. Daily walks provide much needed quality time for you and your pooch. This time is extremely important to your dog’s behavioral development and will provide the foundation for a trusting relationship.

Helps with Weight Control. Heading out on a nice, long walk can help keep those extra pounds away for year-long health. My Le Chameau boots were a fantastic buy. They have a neoprene lining which keeps my feet warm in the winter as well as dry

Improves Socialization. Walks are a great way for you and your dog to experience the world together. Adventure to new places; take in the sights and smells around you. You’ll be surprised at what you’ve been missing.I love looking for new places to explore . When you are in the car you miss all the beauty of nature in the fields and woods around you . It’s so good for your dog to be introduced to different things and learn to relax in different situations .

It’s also a great thing to do together as a family , and encourages children to exercise and enjoy being outside.

We take our dogs on holiday without us to France and spend many happy hours exploring there too. It’s so easy to do with Eurotunnel.

You can read all about our travels on our blog here

Increases Physical and Mental Health. Humans and dogs have several health issues that can be prevented or treated by regular exercise and a healthy diet. Not to mention the extra activity is great for overcoming dog boredom. Your pup will be happy and you’ll be thankful for the improved behaviors around the house.

Decreases loneliness. Solitary walks (for the humans) or sitting in the backyard (for the dogs) can get pretty lonely. Quality walks with your four-legged pal can reduce feelings of loneliness for you and your dog. Does anyone else chat to their dog whilst out or is it just me !
