Days Out with Hettie at Batsford Arboretum

Welcome to our Days Out with Hettie series.

One of the places we love visiting , especially in the Autumn ,is Batsford Arboretum near Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds. It is a dog-friendly, 56-acre gardens with trees and shrubs from around the world, a plant centre , shop and cafe.

The Seasons

There are few better places than Batsford Arboretum to enjoy the changing seasons!

Spring

Enjoy impressive displays of spring flowering bulbs – from swathes of snowdrops, aconites, hellebores, daffodils and narcissi, to the beautiful blossom of our magnolias and flowering cherries, followed by swathes of wild garlic, shady glades of bluebells and grape hyacinths and, later in May, our beautiful Davidia (pocket handkerchief) tree.

Summer

Escape the heat with a walk beside the pools and streams or soak up the sunshine beside our beautiful wild flower areas, where you'll find clouds of forget-me-knots, buttercups, foxgloves and orchids.  It’s time for some of our rarer trees to shine too – among them the Californian Nutmeg, Dawn Redwood and Maidenhair Tree.

Autumn

Autumn brings with it a riot of leaf colour ranging from deep butter yellow through to orange reds and crimsons as well as an abundance of berries.  It’s a natural fireworks spectacular throughout the autumn months.

Winter

The arboretum is transformed into a winter wonderland with ice, frost and snow adding a magical touch to the many trees, plants and views. You may even see early snowdrops and aconites!

Batsford House sits in the centre of the park and you can find out more about the history of how these stunning gardens came to be here

The colours of Autumn are absolutely stunning - nature's wonderful display at it's best

Conservation is an important part of what they do , and  because of its very special nature, the arboretum contains a huge variety of native flora and fauna , operating a sympathetic management regime to help encourage these and allow them to thrive.Batsford is famous for many trees which originate from Japan and China as well as a number of Red Data and Champion Trees.

Take a wander around the glorious gardens , then stop at the shop and cafe for a well earned break . Lovely !
